Founder / Teacher
Jason Muckle is a Northen Virginia native. He fondly recalls the influence of traditional southern-cooked meals growing up. This influence as well as exposure to a variety of cultural foods in the DMV sparked a passion for great food. Originally arriving in Richmond to attend Virginia Commonwealth University to become a teacher, plans changed after graduating. In 2016, while assigned as an AmeriCorps Vista, he learned the importance of food access. In Greater Fulton, he realized that change required food education and access. When not working on food, you can find him talking about basketball, sneakers and his cats.

Our Story
In 2020 the ability to provide food for ourselves became imperative as a variety of our food systems broke down. The consequences were, and have always been more severe for communities of color. As a response, we learned that gaining food skills, especially ones built around self-sufficiency were a necessity.
That’s where CHEW began. Realizing that merely access to food is not enough, we need to learn to provide for ourselves and the ones we love. We wish to empower people through food and it's cultural contributions.
We believe that food is a language that everyone deserves to speak and the culinary stories of black and brown people are an essential part of the story.
CHEW is built around community. We wish to address the specific needs of the community around Cooking, Health, Education and Wellness however we are able. We sincerely ask, what can CHEW do for you?
